This position will be considered an employee of FSU on detail to DEP pursuant to part II of chapter 112, Florida Statutes.
This position will be located at ANERR’s headquarters in the Stewardship section which is tasked with managing 6,800 acres of uplands and marsh in the Apalachicola Bay area. GIS, database management, and field duties of this position will fall into 1) sensitive species monitoring, 2) habitat mapping and management, and 3) public use and access on Reserve managed uplands. The position will include both field work, GIS and geospatial work associated with these projects.
Responsibilities
This position will coordinate and participate in the completion of resource management projects, including the application of prescribed fire, removal of invasive plant species, public use and access of Reserve-managed lands, emergent marsh and mangrove monitoring, sea turtle nest monitoring, culture resource monitoring, living shorelines and restoration work, and shorebird nest protection. This position will participate in regional stewardship meeting/groups and assist with visiting researchers, volunteers, and other collaborative efforts. Additional responsibilities include updating, maintaining, and developing spatial databases and GPS applications for stewardship projects, creating maps for Reserve sections, and participating in public outreach events.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in biology, wildlife sciences, environmental science, fisheries, GIS, natural resources, forest resources, conservation, geomatics, or a related field is required and two years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (Note: post high-school education and/or experience may substitute at a comparable rate)
- The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work independently, be self-motivated, but also be a team player, in sometimes harsh field conditions.
- Knowledge of natural resource management, Florida’s native biodiversity and ecosystem functions, and the demonstrated ability to collect, analyze and interpret spatial date, as well as the ability to move 50 pounds is required.
- Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, ESRI ArcPro, and Garmin and Trimble GPS systems is required; additional experience with Field Maps, Survey123 apps, Google Earth, RTK equipment, experience piloting UAS, or similar applications is desired.
- Experience piloting and trailering boats up to 29’ in length, kayaks, UTVs, power tools, general field equipment, Basic Wildland Firefighter S-130/S-190 or the ability to receive this training within 12 months of employment is also preferred.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is required
