Sherri Goodman announced her decision to leave the position of CEO of the Consortium for Ocean Leadership in order to spend more time with her family, She made the announcement public on 4 January 2015.
In an emailed statement, Ms. Goodman said, “I am very proud of our efforts to strengthen Ocean Leadership in its role as an advocate for ocean science and policy and as the collective voice of the ocean science community. We successfully secured full funding for ocean science and research in the recently passed Omnibus spending bills, and have successfully advanced core ocean science research priorities.”
“I am deeply grateful to the OL staff who have performed exceptional work under challenging circumstances. OL’s highly capable senior management team will provide interim leadership and along with the rest of the staff will maintain continuity of the projects that OL manages and executes for the ocean science community.”
Admiral Jon White, recently retired from the position of Oceanographer of the Navy and currently Vice President of Ocean Leadership, will lead the senior management team in an interim basis while the Board of Trustees develops an expedited CEO search process. The Board meets in person on 13 January 2015 to craft a path forward and to continue strategic planning for Ocean Leadership's future.
Ms. Goodman was a friend of and contributor to ECO Magazine. She demonstrated tremendous leadership during her time as CEO of the Consortium for Ocean Leadership. We wish her and her family well.
