DESCRIPTION

The Executive Director - Leadership Strategy and Engagement (EDOD-LSE) for Southern California reports to the Senior Executive Director-Leadership Strategy and Engagement (SEDOD-LSE) is a member of the senior management team for LSE and participates in a core team to provide strategic insight and guidance regarding Regional and Campus Initiatives fundraising programs.

The EDOD-LSE has the primary responsibility to provide leadership and overall program strategy in planning, coordinating, and implementing fundraising for assigned areas. In addition, the EDOD-LSE is a principal architect of key fundraising strategies related to campaign goals and partners with the SEDOD and campus leadership on strategic design, tactical implementation, and fundraising for the campaign.

The EDOD-LSE provides strong leadership in strategizing and facilitating opportunities for principal and transformative gift fundraising, carrying a portfolio of top principal gift prospects.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong working knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques. Extensive experience in complex, donor-centered institutional major and principal gift level fundraising including the full spectrum of development such as gift policies, solicitations, stewardship, donor recognition, and administration.
  • Expert knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
  • Expert written and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies. Expert skills in making persuasive and compelling presentations of goals and objectives for a location in order to secure gifts.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Expert project/program management skills, including skills in setting and meeting program/project goals and objectives within budget and time constraints.
  • Ability to develop and implement persuasive cultivation ideas and techniques and provide critical analysis, using sound judgment with realistic expectations for prospects and donors.
  • Expert level skills in maintaining confidentiality. Strong sense of ethical conduct that will inspire confidence and motivation with the proven ability to persuade colleagues and donor prospects, while maintaining confidentiality in all matters as they relate to sensitive donor relations issues.
  • Proven success at raising funds by developing and implementing strategic solicitation fundraising plans that incorporate a concise definition of goals, targeted audiences, and strategies in-line with institutional and academic goals in higher education and closing principal gifts ($1M+) from individuals, corporations, and foundations, both local and national.
  • Progressive experience in fundraising roles leading to opportunities to lead and manage individuals working in a different program and/disciplinary roles.
  • Proven understanding of the philosophy of quality service and group process, with a proven aptitude for working as part of a team; demonstrated leadership and strategic planning including budget planning.
  • Expertise in prospect research and the utilization of on-line databases and their software to distill pertinent information and compile up-to-the-minute documents and historical information for reports.
  • Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of developing and utilizing volunteer leadership and organizing and maintaining volunteer support organizations.
  • Demonstrated competency and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
