Ocean Career: Bedrock Hydrographic Data Analyst

Bedrock is operationalizing the largest Earth-exploration mission in human history. We’re doing that by developing robotics & software to explore, map, and classify the entirety of Earth's ocean floor. The oceans are a critical component of climate stabilization.

Our hope is to provide critical subsea data and infrastructure to further understand and predict the fundamental forces that support harmonious human existence on this planet.

About You and the Role

Does spending your days staring at dense seafloor datasets and teasing out insights about the nature of our oceans sound like a dream come true to you? Is your favorite part of any project when the initial data comes in and you get to chat about how to improve it with an excited team? Are you a fast mover, an experimenter, a problem solver? At Bedrock you’ll be joining a team of motivated dreamers, providing expertise that helps us to make rapid improvements in our datasets, our autonomous underwater vehicle behaviors, and the insights that we deliver to customers.

What You'll Do

    • Own first pass data analysis of some/all of the following Bedrock collected datasets: multibeam echo sounder, side-scan sonar, magnetometer, sub-bottom profiler utilizing a standard software package of your choice (e.g., EIVA, SonarWiz, Hypack)
    • Collaborate with internal teams providing expert guidance on improvements to vehicle and survey plans
    • Work with product, leadership, and customers to ensure Bedrock data is the highest quality

What You'll Bring

    • Experience processing at least two of the following datasets: multibeam echo sounder, side-scan sonar, magnetometer, sub-bottom profiler using a software suite such as SonarWiz, Eiva, SonarWiz, Hypack or equivalent.
    • Attention to detail and organization
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Experience iterating on data improvements
    • A sense of comfort in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
    • Excitement for learning and growth

Bonus skills

  • Some (even light) python/R/matlab/shell/sql coding experience
  • Experience in visualization or maps and time series data
  • Experience preparing data/reports for offshore wind
  • Experience in the field (ship and/or autonomous underwater vehicle operations)
