Water Quality Technician training will be conducted in a team environment which involves continuously maintaining the water quality and meteorological instruments of the Indian River Lagoon and St. Lucie Estuary.
This is part of the Indian River Lagoon Observatory Network of Environmental Sensors (IRLON).
Perform preventative maintenance, verification and troubleshooting on water quality instrumentation, in the laboratory, but mostly in the field while working off a small boat.
Participate and adhere to IRLON QAPP and SOPs to ensure that all QA/QC requirements are met, and that documentation related to the work are accurately completed and reported.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Marine Science, Engineering, or related technical field, and one year of related experience required.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and managers from varying disciplines and be comfortable working in a team environment required.
- High degree of organization, strong communication skills, and ability to manage a variety of tasks, environments, and dynamic schedule required.
- Ability to work outside of normal business hours, when required.
- Must have a valid Florida Driver's license.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment (50 lbs.) required.
- Ability to work off of a small boat in various types of weather required.
- Experience with water quality instrumentation (e.g., CTDs, continuous nutrient sensors) preferred.
- Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office, DOS, and terminal emulator preferred.
