Ocean Career: Marine Biological Laboratory Echeverri Lab Research Assistant I

The Echeverri lab at the MBL (Marine Biological Laboratory) seeks a highly motivated individual to join the Eugene Bell Center for Regenerative Biology and Tissue Engineering as a Research Assistant I.

The successful candidate will work year-round full-time with responsibilities including primary care for research animals as well as research.

Additional Information:

The specific goal of the position is to maintain animal facilities, to assist in generating transgenic animals and to assist with ongoing research projects in the lab. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, daily feeding and maintenance of aquatic animals, lab ordering and basic lab experiments.

Basic Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology or zoology is required. This position requires an independent, organized, and self-motivated individual with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to multitask. Prior experience in a research lab and with molecular biology is required. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills are essential.

Working occasional weekends, occasional holidays, and on-call emergency response is a requirement of this five-day-a week position.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have some experience with working with aquatic animals. Previous experience with molecular biology and/or injecting embryos would be a plus.

Physical Requirements:

Minimal exposure to biohazardous chemicals. Occasional lifting of heavy objects (<30 pounds).
