Ocean Career: National Sea Simulator Technical Officer at AIMS

Technical Officers are a key members of the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) National Sea Simulator (SeaSim) team, and under the operational leadership of the Senior Technical Officer, you will provide high-quality experimental support to contribute to research outputs.

You will be responsible for assisting in the operation, optimisation and maintenance of life support systems and in the configuration and operation of scientific experiments.

You will carry out activities to build, establish, test and commission systems for experimentation, holding, propagation and breeding of marine organisms for the use in research programs within the AIMS National Sea Simulator. Your position will see you provide direct operational input and support in the operation and maintenance of the SeaSim.

About you

Relying on your Science, Aquaculture (or similar) tertiary qualifications, as well as your experience in operating, monitoring and optimising life support systems for the aquaculture/aquarium industry, you will have the ability to demonstrate your capabilities for providing direct experimental support to research projects including animal husbandry, feeding, experimental measurement and other activities requested by users.

Having developed good plumbing skills, a high degree of initiative and excellent problem-solving abilities, you will be considered to have the capabilities for setting up experiments and building holding systems for marine organisms. Importantly, your ability to work independently, will be fundamental for ensuring that the facility and experiments on a continuous basis and to achieve this you will be required to participate in a roster arrangement and have the flexibility and capacity to work weekends and public holiday.

  • AIMS AOF Level 3 Enhanced salary ($68,759 to $86,200 per annum) plus 15.4% superannuation
