Purpose of Position:

At Sea-Bird Scientific, calibration is the heart of what we do and our specialized systems for calibration produce incredibly stable environments that make them excellent tools for diagnosing problems with oceanographic instruments returning from the field. The purpose of this position is to ensure accurate interpretation of calibration data as a diagnostic tool. You will report to the Service Supervisor at our Bellevue, Washington site, but will also have responsibility ensuring accurate data interpretation at our global recalibration sites.

Essential Functions:

  • Use standard work to interpret calibration data results to determine if an instrument is healthy or needs repair
  • Use standard work to communicate calibration results and follow-on actions in our ERP system
  • Partner with Calibration Technicians to distinguish difference between instrument errors and calibration bath errors, and work closely together to achieve the best results
  • Create sustainable processes to prioritize the use of our calibration capacity to achieve high on time delivery for service orders
  • Partner with our metrologist to uphold calibration standards locally and at our global sites
  • Periodically review and train with our global teams to ensure Service standards and diagnostic processes are in alignment
  • Act as an escalation point for other service technicians with calibration questions
  • Use a continuous improvement mindset to build and streamline procedures, develop best practices, create and maintain standard work, and mentor others

Education, Background and Qualification Requirements:

  • 4-year degree in a STEM field preferred; or minimum of 4 years of experience interpreting calibration data for diagnostic purposes
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts and practices
  • Comfortable with MS Office Suite, Oracle a plus
  • Fluency in German and/or Mandarin a plus
