The Opportunity

Exponent is currently seeking an Aquaculture & Marine Managing Scientist for its  Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice at Exponent’s Natick, MA office. Position locations in Bellevue, WA, Alexandria, VA, Menlo Park, CA, or Pasadena, CA offices will be considered. In this role, you will work as part of a team to provide technical support on existing projects and business development efforts in the Ecological & Biological Sciences Practice.

Responsibilities

  • Understanding and interpreting complex aquaculture business dynamics including government regulations, operational performance, environmental monitoring, site infrastructure, and production processes
  •  Analyzing and preparing regulatory documents and reports
  •  Strategic business development and client networking in a team environment with the aim to grow a broad range of science and engineering technical services globally in the aquaculture and seafood sector
  •  Synthesizing technical information and applying creative and critical thinking to prepare and review reports and technical presentations
  •  Developing and maintaining professional status by authoring peer-reviewed publications, and participation in technical conferences and activities of professional societies
  •  Managing projects and working cooperatively on projects with other members of the Practice and interdisciplinary groups from other Exponent practices as appropriate

Skills and Qualifications

  •  Ph.D. in Aquaculture, Marine Sciences, Applied Ecology, or another related field
  •  Minimum of 4 years of professional experience, with at least 2 years of direct consulting experience
  •  Knowledge of coastal and marine ecosystems and hydrodynamics
  •  Working knowledge of commercial fishing and seafood production practices
  •  Strong understanding of scientific sampling methodologies and the state-of-science on a broad range of aquatic ecosystem, fisheries, wildlife, and water quality issues
  •  Experience with data analysis and statistics
  •  Experience managing tasks and projects of moderate scope and complexity Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects and tasks with competing deadlines, and communicate within multidisciplinary teams
  •  Demonstrated ability in written and oral communications
  •  Strong commitment to personal development
  •  Not required but any of the following experience would be a plus:
    •  Basic understanding of fisheries and seafood traceability, seafood sustainability ratings and certifications, and market- based conservation initiatives
    •  Basic understanding of HACCP plans and food safety programs, including food safety and quality control systems
    •  Understanding of federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations pertinent to fish, wildlife, water quality and related environmental sciences including ESA, NEPA, and Clean Water Act in the U.S. and similar laws and regulations in other countries
