Join the Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research (CIMAR) at NOAA's Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC) and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). CIMAR is currently recruiting for a full-time Fisheries Assistant Researcher position based at PIFSC in Honolulu, Hawaii. In collaboration with PIFSC scientists, this position will explore data needs and assessment options for non-target species captured in Hawai’i based fisheries
DUTIES:
The Fisheries Research and Monitoring Division at PIFSC is looking for an individual to help us more fully understand management and assessment options for non-target management unit species in Hawai’i fisheries. These species are an important component of the catch and but uncertainty around their ecology makes assessment and the effectiveness of management unclear. We are looking for an individual interested in translating ecological scenarios into operating models so that assessment and management options can be explored.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. from an accredited college or university in Fisheries, Computational Biology, Computational Marine Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field of study. Experience in developing and applying quantitative approaches to fisheries in support of fisheries assessment. Extensive knowledge of R, SS3, or TMB for fisheries analysis related to fisheries assessment.
SALARY: $5,600 - $6,300/mo. commensurate with qualifications
