The Coral Reef Special Issue will be produced in partnership with the University of Bremen, the hosts of the 14th International Coral Reef Symposium (ICRS 2020). This is the leading global conference on coral reef science, management and conservation, sanctioned every four years by the International Coral Reef Society (ICRS).
The special issue will be distributed at the ICRS 2020, which is due to take place in July 2020 at the Exhibition and Conference Center in Bremen (Germany).
“The ICRS 2020 is the largest platform for dialogue between scientists, the public, and decision-makers on coral reef ecosystems. This dialogue is particularly important at the moment as we are in a deep coral reef crisis, probably the deepest coral reef crisis in Earth’s history,” says Prof. Dr. Christian Wild, conference chairman at the University of Bremen.
ICRS 2020 will be the key event to develop science-based solutions addressing the present and future challenges of coral reefs, which are globally exposed to unprecedented anthropogenic pressures.
Available in June 2020, the special issue will further highlight international research, advances on the effects of climate change on coral reefs, expert opinions, and advancements in coral restoration and monitoring technologies.
“We urgently need to develop effective solutions that address the global issue of degrading coral reef systems. As we’ve seen with our past special issues on coastal restoration (2018) and ocean sound (2019), creating a platform for individuals and organizations to share success stories and innovative ideas with an international audience can help speed up this process,” said Kira Coley, senior editor of ECO Magazine.
“Through ECO, we are able to profile a board range of research and breakthrough technology that has the potential to safeguard the future of these vital, fragile ecosystems. As such, we’re thrilled to partner with the ICRS and University of Bremen, and have our magazine’s 2020 special issue focus on this fascinating topic,” Coley added.
ECO Magazine and ICRS 2020 invite researchers, engineers, and industry members involved in coral reef projects (research, monitoring, management or restoration) to submit articles about their activities. Those wishing to contribute are encouraged to email the magazine’s senior editor before submitting content. The deadline for submissions is May 18th.
ECO Magazine’s special issues are made possible thanks to sponsorship contributions from ocean science institutes and industry members. Sponsorships packages are available for parties interested in supporting the issue’s important message.
