In Pursuit of Marine Sustainability – IMarEST Annual Conference 4-8 July 2022

With the marine sector facing a decade of transformation in the quest for greater sustainability, the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology’s annual conference will focus on some of the challenges, technologies and potential solutions on the horizon.

The week-long online event will be chaired by Alastair Fischbacher, the 119th President of the IMarEST who says: “Sustainability can mean different things to each of us, but whatever our individual definition, one of the biggest challenges we face is achieving sustainable change while meeting commercial needs through the transition. Very often this leads us to look at short-term gains versus the longer term goals. However, we cannot afford to default to the short-term any longer; the clock is ticking. We must embrace this opportunity to change for our planet, our ocean and our marine activities.”

The conference is open to IMarEST members and non-members. The programme will feature 90-minute online sessions on the themes of:

  • Clean energy and transport – Climate change, decarbonisation, green marine, net zero
  • Nature-based solutions – Blue carbon, coastal protection, ocean plastics, ecological engineering
  • Adaptation and resilience – Artificial Intelligence, cyber security, diversity in the marine industry, human element, safety, training the next marine generation

Online attendance is free to attend and is also IMarEST CPD-recognised with a Certificate of Attendance issued following the conference.
