NOAA Seeks an Attorney Advisor to Help Protect Our Oceans

NOAA seeks an Attorney Advisor to join their national team of civil prosecutors charged with protecting the oceans, marine resources, and marine sanctuaries. The work of the Attorney Advisor will be diverse and complex.

The Attorney Advisor will work with federal and state law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute violations of marine resource conservation laws such as the Magnuson-Stevens Act, the National Marine Sanctuaries Act, the Marine Mammal Protection Act, and the Endangered Species Act. The Attorney Advisor will be responsible for cases arising out of the Northeast area, but might also be called on to assist in cases originating in other NOAA Enforcement Section offices in St. Petersburg, FL, Long Beach, CA, Seattle, WA, Juneau, AK, and Honolulu, HI.

In addition, the Enforcement Section provides guidance on legislative and regulatory issues, works with the Department of Justice on appropriate criminal cases and provides training to NOAA law enforcement investigators, Coast Guard personnel, and state and local law enforcement partners. The Enforcement Section also works closely with the Department of State to develop effective enforcement positions in the international arena to combat illegal fishing. The incumbent for this position reports to the Deputy Section Chief, Enforcement Section of NOAA’s Office of General Counsel. The Office provides legal advice on a wide variety of legal issues including U.S. and international fisheries, marine mammals, endangered and threatened marine species, preservation of coastal areas, marine sanctuaries, and licensing of commercial satellites.
