About this opportunity
As our Pilot Deployment Program (PDP) Next Generation Tools for Coral Monitoring Technician you will be required to support method development and semi-automated data production, including AI-classifiers. Specifically, this role will lead one (1) publication, and accelerate the production, QCQA, and maintenance of high-quality datasets to support several team objectives in the operationalisation of monitoring restoration interventions.
This role is critical in supporting benthic data production, quality control, and assurance following FAIR data principles along with monitoring method development and automation across the Pilot Deployment Program including in the field.
NB: Non-Australian Citizens must hold an appropriate Visa with working entitlements that allows paid employment with AIMS from commencement and for the term of the appointment, depending on the Department of Home Affairs current policies.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential
- Masters degree or higher in Marine Biology, Coral Reef Ecology, or a related discipline with considerable applied knowledge of ecological, statistical, and environmental principles and processes.
- Skills and experience in AI application to data extraction from coral reef images (i.e. CPCe, CoralNet, ReefCloud, TagLab, or similar).
- Skills, experience, and passion in development and testing of training datasets for optimising AI workflows.
- Skills and/or experience in data QCQA, metadata generation, and publication as per FAIR and CARE data integrity principles.
- Skills and/or experience in methods development and monitoring design and innovation.
Desirable
- Previous experience working with photogrammetry equipment and data.
- Field qualifications and certifications as per AIMS dive register, and passion for safety, collaboration, and respect.
- Current C Class Open Drivers Licence (or equivalent) or the willingness to obtain.
Salary: AIMS AOF Level 3 Enhanced (AOF3.6 to AOF3.9) salary ($88,578 to $95,846 per annum) plus 15.4% superannuation
