Primary Function:
AIS is recruiting a Deckhand to deploy on a vessel conducting hydrographic survey operations in New England. AIS is looking for individuals with offshore experience. The Deckhand will be stationed offshore during 12 hour or 24 hour operations and will be assigned a 12 hour watch daily.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist with vessel operations and maintenance
- Handle lines during docking and undocking
- Operate deck equipment such as winches, cranes, capstans, or pumps
- Load and unload cargo, supplies, or equipment
- Stand watch and assist with navigation/lookout duties
- Follow safety procedures and participate in drills
- Support emergency response activities
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED (often preferred)
- Must have current STCW Basic Safety Training (BST), or GWO or BOSIET training.
- Must have current CPR/First Aid certification.
- Must be certified by a physician as fit for sea duty including:
- Not be susceptible to chronic motion sickness
- Ability to live in confined quarters
- Ability to tolerate stress
- Ability to lift objects up to 30 pounds
- Ability to vigilantly monitor waters surrounding observation platform/vessel for up to 4 hours at a time and not more than 12 hours in a 24-hour period.
- Must have proof of eligibility to work within the US
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous marine, construction, labor, or offshore experience preferred
- Ability to work long hours in varying weather and sea conditions
- Physically capable of lifting heavy equipment and performing manual labor
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Basic mechanical aptitude
Compensation: $26 – $28/hour (This is a temporary position)
