ABOUT THE POSITION
AMS incorporates professional staff with specialties in marine biology, aquatic chemistry, oceanography, environmental engineering, and statistical design and analysis to name just a few. The work we conduct varies greatly over time, based largely on our evolving understanding of the aquatic environment, the requirements of our clients, and the interests of our staff.
The duties of the position will also evolve to reflect the successful candidate’s skillset, interests, and ability to take on new responsibilities. The focus of the position will be to support AMS in its stormwater management portfolio. Initial tasks are expected to include participation in study design, field sampling, quality assurance, and data analysis and interpretation efforts. The successful candidate will have:
- Excellent written, organizational, and time management skills
- A Masters degree in an environmental engineering or science field (or Bachelor’s plus relevant experience)
- Ability to work independently and in collaboration with internal staff and external partners
- Ability to conduct fieldwork in inclement weather in varied environments
- Valid driver’s license
- Willingness to engage in short-term travel to project locations and to participate in fieldwork including on boats and research vessels
Specific technical skills of benefit to this position may include, but are not limited to, familiarity with the following:
- Environmental chemistry
- Environmental engineering
- Hydrology
- State and federal water regulations
- Database applications
- Statistical analysis and R-Program experience
- Scientific writing
