Job Summary:
The Senior Geneticist will be responsible for operational and research activities to support and develop the global salmon breeding programs. This will include overseeing the disease challenge experiments and associated datasets to develop disease resistance traits and the coordination and analyses of genomic data. In addition, the Senior Geneticist will contribute to R&D projects, helping to ensure the company remains at the forefront of applied aquaculture genetics globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and analyze large genotype datasets and associated databases to support the implementation of genomic selection
- Contribute to optimization of Benchmark Genetics’ in-house salmon breeding program design and operations.
- Contribute to strategic R&D projects, including external collaborative projects, research and development licenses, and tax relief projects.
- Actively participate in collaboration across the Genetics team.
- Participate as a regular member of Benchmark’s Genetics Interest Group, and Global Salmon Breeding Program group and contribute to Product Steering Team meetings as requested.
Lead the planning and coordination of large-scale fish trials, especially disease trials, to support salmon breeding programs globally
Qualifications and experience
- A higher degree (MSc or PhD) in animal breeding or a relevant area
- Several years of experience in breeding program operations and/or research and development
- Strong background in several of the following areas: statistics, bioinformatics, genomics, fish biology, fish pathology, quantitative genetics
- Experience and knowledge of aquaculture breeding (desirable)
