Benchmark is a Texas based environmental and archeological consulting firm offering a range of services including:
- Wetland surveys,
- Threatened and endangered species (TES) surveys,
- Cultural resource surveys,
- Benthic surveys,
- Drone surveys,
- Hydrographic surveys, and
- Environmental sampling (water, sediment, soil, tissue, sludge, etc.).
Benchmark is supported by a group of highly experienced environmental scientists that have been developing, managing, and conducting projects for more than 25 years. Benchmark scientists specialize in wetland assessments; TES surveys; sediment, soil, and water analysis; and habitat assessment, mapping, and mitigation. Port Houston presented Benchmark with the Environmental Small Business of the Year Award in 2007. Benchmark scientists draw on years of experience and ecological training to delineate wetlands, map ecologically sensitive habitat, and conduct TES surveys. Benchmark scientists are also recognized as experts in the ecology of wetland wildlife (e.g., waterfowl, shorebirds, small mammals, and reptiles) and aquatic biota (e.g., amphibians, fish, mollusks, crustaceans, and aquatic insects).
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Candidates with small vessel and coastal waterways experience are preferred.
- Conduct and manage hydrographic survey projects from initiation through completion (multibeam, single beam, sub-bottom, and sidescan).
- Develop project plans, including scope, cost, schedule, budget, and resource allocation.
- Monitor project progress and adjust as necessary to ensure successful completion.
- Coordinate with other departments and external organizations as needed.
- Analyze and interpret survey data and supervise the creation of detailed reports, maps, and quantity tables.
- Ensure that all reports comply with industry standards and regulations.
- Build Department by providing leads on new work and new client contact.
- Oversee the design and execution of hydrographic surveys, including the use of sonar, GPS, Hypack, and other surveying equipment.
- Ensure the field methods are compatible with accurate data collection.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with survey equipment and software.
- Supervise and mentor a team of hydrographic surveyors, technicians, and support staff.
- Provide training and development opportunities to team members.
- Foster a positive, collaborative and productive work environment.
- Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs and project requirements.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, addressing any concerns or issues promptly.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Hydrographic Surveying, Geomatics, Marine Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- Professional certification or licensure in hydrographic surveying (e.g., Chartered Geographer, Professional Surveyor) is advantageous.
- Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in hydrographic surveying with at least 2 years in a management or supervisory role.
- Proficiency in hydrographic survey equipment, software, and data analysis techniques.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations, standards, and safety procedures.
- Will require travel to survey sites or client meetings.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including outdoor and marine settings.
- Flexibility to work outside standard office hours if needed.
