The Blue Economics Officer will report into the Senior Economist. They will deliver on a broad, dynamic set of unit objectives, including:
- Researching and reading about emerging conservation finance tools and synthesizing information for the wider team.
- Contributing to the structuring of innovative sustainable finance mechanisms within Blue Marine projects.
- Engaging with Blue Marine’s project partners around Blue Economics workstreams.
- Supporting the Senior Economist to manage the unit day to day; liaising with external stakeholders, responding to queries about the unit, contributing to writing briefs and proposals, helping to organize travel and events for the unit team.
- Supporting the development of fundraising proposals and completing funding reports, where relevant to the economics unit’s work.
The successful candidate should have the following:

- Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects with a ‘sleeves-rolled-up’ attitude.
- A proven ability to understand financial tools such as bonds, carbon and nature markets and natural capital assessments.
- Ability to synthesize large volumes of information into headlines.
- Self-motivated and interested to stay up to date on emerging developments within conservation finance, marine policy, and sustainable fisheries.
- Good time management and ability to work to deadlines.
- Strong oral and written communication.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, economics, business, finance, or similar subjects.
- A minimum of one year experience working in economics, finance, business or related field.
Compensation: £28,000 – £32,000 per annum depending on experience and a competitive benefits package.
