Ocean Career: Colorado Parks and Wildlife Native Fisheries Technician

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife is currently seeking a Native Fisheries Technician to assist the aquatic biologist in a variety of projects monitoring native aquatic species throughout northwestern Colorado.

Duties include:

  • fishery surveys (jet boat, raft, and backpack electrofishing, seine and trap nets)
  • non-native fish control projects
  • stream and lake reclamation projects
  • managing PIT tag antennas
  • boreal toad surveys
  • equipment maintenance
  • data management

Work will often be on rivers via jet boats, rafts, or using bank electrofishing units. This position requires working in sometimes inclement weather and physically demanding situations.

Qualifications/Responsibilities:

  • Interest in native fish and amphibians and working as part of a team are essential.
  • Daily job location elevations vary from 4,500–12,000+ feet above sea level. 
  • Candidates working towards or possessing a bachelor’s degree in fisheries, wildlife, or related field and/or experience with fish and amphibian surveys preferred. 
  • Skill in guiding whitewater rafts and/or operating motorized boats is highly desirable. 
  • Must be able to swim, hike, camp, and backpack. 
  • A valid driver’s license and heavy lifting are required.

Compensation: $19 to $21.90 per hour
