Ocean Career: CQ University Principal Research Fellow – Coastal Restoration

The Coastal Marine Ecosystems Research Centre (CMERC) is seeking a distinguished Principal Research Fellow to lead progressive research in coastal restoration, ecological resilience, and habitat rehabilitation, with a focus on seagrass restoration. Situated within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area, CMERC is home to the world’s largest seagrass nursery and major programs in oyster, mangrove, and marine habitat restoration.

Working from CMERC’s world-class waterfront facility in Gladstone, you will lead high-impact research in marine ecology, benthic ecosystems, and climate adaptation. You will secure and manage funding, publish influential findings in ecological restoration, and mentor emerging researchers. Collaborating with industry, government, and academic partners, you will develop real-world solutions that enhance biodiversity, fisheries, and climate resilience.

Position Requirements

  • A doctoral qualification with research expertise in seagrass ecological restoration (or similar coastal restoration specializations).
  • A strong research track record, including publications, conference contributions, and professional achievements.
  • Experience conducting research aligned with strategic priorities, with a commitment to securing external grants and industry partnerships.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Extensive experience in investigative research, demonstrating expertise in research methodologies, statistical analysis, and the preparation of reports and publications.
  • Strong ability to engage with stakeholders and provide expert advice.

Total Remuneration $187,890 to $205,911 pa (including salary of $158,770 to $173,998 plus 17% superannuation and leave loading)
