Ocean Career: EMB Executive Director

MarineBoard_logo_Europe_HR
The European Marine Board (EMB) was founded in 1995 to strengthen cooperation among Europe's leading marine science organisations. Its membership comprises major national marine and oceanographic institutes, research funding agencies, and university consortia with a strong focus on marine research. EMB serves as an independent bridge between science and policy; translating research findings for decision-makers while ensuring that policy priorities reach the scientific community. Through this role, EMB advances Europe's position at the forefront of marine research and technology, helping to shape common research priorities and close the gap between knowledge and action.

EMB undertakes a wide spectrum of strategic activities to bridge the gap between research, policy, industry and society. These include Working Groups, producing strategic foresight papers, organising forums, conferences and other meetings and events, and by participating in EU projects. EMB also engages in marine science-policy facilitation and communication, attending and speaking at numerous relevant events at European and International level.

The European Marine Board is seeking a new Executive Director to lead its professional Secretariat in promoting and advancing marine science on behalf of its Member institutions across Europe. This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative, collaborative leader to oversee EMB’s work programme and shape new approaches that strengthen its role as a trusted source of marine science-policy advice to European institutions, national governments, and funding agencies. The ideal candidate will bring a strong track record in marine research, research management, team and resource leadership, and science communication.
