This position will assist in the implementation of Risk Assessment and Mitigation Program aimed at reducing whale entanglements with fishing gear in the Dungeness crab fishery. The incumbent individual will also work as team to draft a Conservation Plan to supoort an application for a federal Incidental Take Permit, support Department representatives on the Dungeness crab Fishing Gear Working Group, and coordinate with Federal partners, academics and non-governmental organizations. Other tasks include analysis and implementation of changes to state managed fisheries that reduce whale and sea turtle entanglements and preparation of regulatory documents consistent with Marine Life Management Act and California Environmental Qualify Act.
This position is 12 months Limited Term (LT) and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.
If you currently have permanent status in your position and have passed probation, you have mandatory reinstatement rights into your former position at the end of this LT appointment. If you have not had prior permanent or probationary civil service status, you will be separated from State service.

Salary: $4,145.00 – $7,926.00 per Month
