Ocean Career: Fugro Technical Support Engineer

At Fugro’s Sea-Kit division, we are looking for a hands-on and motivated Technical Support Engineer, where we develop cutting-edge Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs) that enable remote, autonomous, sustainable marine operations. In this role, you will combine software and hardware skills to support our operational fleet and assist in testing and commissioning new vessels. You will work closely with experts in PLCs, navigation, and control systems, and play a key part in field deployments and troubleshooting. Your role

  • You provide technical support for deployed USV’s, including diagnostics, remote troubleshooting, and system updates;
  • You assist in commissioning and acceptance testing of new vessels, both on-site and remotely;
  • You develop and maintain tools and scripts for system monitoring, diagnostics, and data analysis;
  • You collaborate with software and automation teams to integrate and validate control systems, PLC logic, and user interfaces;
  • You support the development and maintenance of full stack applications (C#.NET, Angular) used for USV control and monitoring;
  • You contribute to the continuous improvement of support workflows, documentation, and knowledge sharing;
  • You participate in field trials and provide feedback to engineering teams for system enhancements;
  • You ensure compliance with safety, cybersecurity and marine operational standards.

Your track record

  • You have a B.Sc. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field, with at least 3 years of experience in technical support, software development or industrial automation;
  • You are proficient in C#.NET, Angular, and PLC programming (e.g., CODESYS, e!COCKPIT, IEC 61131-3);
  • You are familiar with MQTT, Modbus and other industrial communication protocols;
  • You have experience with remote diagnostics, system integration and field commissioning;
  • You have strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, hands-on approach;
  • You have excellent communication skills and the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams;
  • You are willing to travel for field deployments and vessel commissioning.

Nice to Have

  • As a plus, you have experience with maritime systems or autonomous vehicles,
  • Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines, and;
  • Familiarity with real-time control systems and sensor integration.
