As a Trainee Surveyor, you’ll be working closely with the team of Surveyors and Engineers to ensure all survey equipment is working effectively, data is collected efficiently and accurately, whilst communicating regularly with the team onboard the vessel and when required, clients service lines – all while enhancing your range of skills. You’ll play a crucial role in conducting survey and positioning activities, and ensuring a high level of quality control on survey vessels. Opportunities for involvement span across our various service lines, where you’ll actively participate in and learn the intricacies of setting up, testing, calibrating, and operating a diverse range of survey and positioning systems. This role not only provides hands-on experience but also facilitates the development of a comprehensive understanding of engineering, processing, ROV, and marine disciplines.

If successful you’ll complete a 4 weeks Training camp in Plymouth where you will further develop your existing skills with a focus on Basic Survey Engineering, Fugro specific systems as well as USBL which includes comprehensive theory and practical
The program includes both theory and hands on based learning which will give you the best start to your career as a surveyor, where you’ll gain immersive experience, be at the forefront of cutting-edge technology and contribute to the impactful world of survey engineering.
We are looking forward to having the successful applicants join us in Aberdeen Monday 22nd September to start employment before heading to Plymouth for the 4-5 week bootcamp, beginning 29th September. These dates/training are non-negotiable, so please be mindful of this when applying. All travel/accommodation is provided by Fugro for this period of time.
Who we’re looking for:
- It is important that you have a desire to work offshore as a surveyor and work well as part of a small team. You will have excellent attention to detail and will have the ability to spot and solve problems. You must also be prepared to spend approximately 180 days offshore per year
- We are looking for someone who has strong computer skills and a solid understanding of field concepts, survey practices, and procedures. You will have a basic understanding of online survey systems and system calibrations. Ideally you will have basic knowledge of survey equipment such as navigation systems and sensors
- You will have a degree in geography, geomatics, hydrographic surveying, marine sciences and marine geography, or another relating subject
- If you do not hold a degree in these subjects or one similar, your will have direct land surveying, or experience in offshore activities
