Principal Duties and Responsibilities of the Role
The specific duties of each Flood and Coastal Risk Officer Grade III will largely be determined by the Section to which successful candidates are assigned. Principal duties and responsibilities across all Sections can include:
- Undertaking, or assisting in the management of, projects and technical assessments, studies or research in connection with the areas of activity of the Sections.
- Assisting in the work of a project team, and assisting in managing the human, budgetary and other resources allocated to the work area, including monitoring work programs, ensuring value for money, implementing management systems and procedures and reporting progress on a regular basis.
- Assisting with the procurement and management of outsourced service providers for OPW requirements, including the preparation of briefs, assessment of tenders and monitoring and controlling the delivery of the service/commission, to ensure that maximum value and service is obtained from the arrangements;
- Engaging with internal and external stakeholders and building relationships to promote effective service delivery by the OPW, and representing the OPW on relevant committees / groups, when required;
- Liaising with other team members, staff within the OPW and other public bodies, local authorities, local organizations and individuals, and attending meetings, as necessary for the work of the Sections.
- Supporting the management and monitoring of Health and Safety issues in compliance with relevant legislation;
- Assisting in maintaining and developing management and internal work systems;
- Advising on and promoting best practice in flood and coastal risk management and hydrometrics in Ireland.
Essential Qualifications
- A qualification at minimum Level 8 (honors bachelor’s degree) on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) or NARIC Ireland Foreign Qualifications equivalent in Civil Engineering, Geography or Geoscience, or in a similar discipline such as Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Earth and Ocean Science, or Climate Change.
- Some experience (which may be obtained during and/or as part of your academic qualification i.e. coursework, study, assignments, projects etc.) in one or more of the following areas:
- Hydrology
- Hydrometrics
- Hydraulics/Fluid Dynamics
- Coastal Processes
- Flood Risk Assessment and Management
- Coastal Erosion Assessment and Management
- Nature-based Measures for Achieving Water-related objectives
- Computer Science Applications for Water-related Assessment and Management.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience from your employment to date in any of the following areas:
- Flood Risk Assessment and Management
- Hydrology and Hydrological Analysis
- Hydrometric Data Collection and Processing
- River Engineering, Hydraulics and Flood Mapping
- Coastal Processes and Analysis
- Surveying and Remote Sensing
- Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
- A current full driving license (Category B), valid in Ireland and access to a car.
Salary range: From €39,474 to €79,618
