We are seeking an entry-level marine science technician ready to engage in a fast-paced, applied science, and technical role based in either Stuart, Florida, or Houston, Texas. CSA expects adherence to our rigorous internal standards for science, operations, health and safety, quality, and professionalism. Applicants must possess an undergraduate degree in environmental science, marine science, biology, chemistry, or a related field.
Position Summary: This position will primarily support the Energy Market but will be involved in all aspects of CSA projects including (but not limited to) field surveys, data entry, quality assurance, equipment maintenance, project support, occasional client interaction, and contributing to report writing. An understanding of sample collection in the marine environment and a willingness to learn procedures pertaining to specialized scientific equipment is required. The successful applicant must have strong organizational and teamwork skills and be able to work independently. This position requires periodic domestic and potentially international travel, sometimes at short notice and on weekends, during all times of the year, during both daytime and nighttime shifts if at sea, and potentially for prolonged periods (several weeks).
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining scientific equipment;
- Ability and willingness to learn and apply new skills;
- Supporting the quality, validity, accuracy, and management of a project’s data;
- Participation in offshore surveys, potentially in international locations;
- Adherence to all company standards and procedures;
- Fully satisfy assigned training and safety requirements as applicable;
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
- B.S. in marine science, environmental science, biology, chemistry, or a related field;
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Ability, availability, and responsiveness to work on multiple projects;
- Experience with MS Office (i.e., Word, Excel, Power Point);
- A valid U.S. Passport and Drivers License.
Advantageous Skills and Experience:
- Oil spill response;
- BOSIET-HUET certification (or equivalent);
- First Aid, CPR, and O2 administration certifications;
- Environmental sampling with equipment on offshore vessels;
- Health, safety, and/or environmental hazard training;
- Certified SCUBA diver (at least 100 dives and AAUS training).
