The Role
MTS seeks a part-time Marketing & Communications Coordinator to join our growing headquarters team. Reporting to and working closely with the Communications Manager, the Coordinator will assist with creating, organizing, and distributing impactful communications materials. This cross-cutting role will support a wide array of initiatives, from a robust collection of signature member-serving programs, to newer additions to the MTS portfolio such as the MATE Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Competition and the Ocean Enterprise Initiative. Under the direction of the Communications Manager, this role will have a functional home in the highly visible membership & community engagement team at MTS.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, creative, and skilled in digital marketing, with a passion for supporting MTS’s mission to advance marine technology.
This role will support the following key areas:
Marketing Material Design and Development
- Design and develop marketing materials for MTS programs, aligning with MTS branding guidelines.
- Create competition materials for the MATE ROV Competition, ensuring clear, engaging communication with participants and stakeholders.
Content Calendar and Social Media Management
- Maintain the MTS & MATE Communications Content Calendar to coordinate and track all social media and email communications.
- Assist in content scheduling, management, and distribution across social media channels to ensure consistent and timely engagement with MTS communities, including MATE, OEI, and others.
- Actively engage with MTS communities on social media by responding to comments, messages, and mentions, fostering a positive and interactive online presence.
Email Communications
- Distribute email communications to all MTS communities, including newsletters, event announcements, and other targeted outreach materials.
- Coordinate with team members to ensure emails are clear, well-designed, and optimized for maximum engagement.
Website Content Maintenance
- Update and maintain content across MTS websites, ensuring accurate and fresh information that highlights current initiatives, events, and community news.
- Facilitate content curation by collaborating with MTS members and community partners to gather and publish relevant stories and resources.
Branded Templates and Presentation Support
- Develop and implement MTS-branded templates to support consistent messaging across membership communications, programs, and events.
- Support MTS headquarters and board members with professional presentation materials for various meetings and events.
Data Analytics Tracking
- Monitor data analytics and insights for MTS websites, email blasts, newsletters, and social media.
- Collaborate with the Communications Manager to refine content strategies based on analytics insights for improved outreach and engagement.
- Maintain organized records of analytics data to support reporting, goal-setting, and long-term planning for MTS and MATE communications.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, digital media, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 1-3 years of experience in marketing, communications, or a similar role, preferably in a nonprofit or membership-based organization.
- Proficiency in digital design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), Canva, and basic video editing (e.g., CapCut or similar).
- Experience with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X) and scheduling tools (e.g., Hootsuite or similar).
- Familiarity with social media analytics and Google Analytics (GA4).
- Basic knowledge of website content management systems (CMS) like HubSpot and experience with updating website content.
- Knowledge of email marketing platforms (e.g., MemberClicks, Mailchimp, Constant Contact) and best practices for email engagement.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with an eye for detail and an ability to maintain consistent messaging and tone.
- Creative, adaptable, and willing to bring fresh ideas to enhance MTS’s digital presence and community engagement.
Employment Considerations
- This role can be structured for an independent contractor or a part-time hourly employee. Expected time commitment is 20-30 hours per week.
- Competitive compensation commensurate with experience and negotiable.
- MTS staff work flexible hours and are fully remote.
- Occasional travel is required (approx. 1-2x per year) to represent MTS at events and/or attend staff meetings.
