MBARI seeks a Research Technician to assist with the management of data from the biogeochemical profiling floats operated as part of the Global Ocean Biogeochemistry (GO-BGC) and Southern Ocean Carbon and Climate Observations and Modeling (SOCCOM) arrays. These are NSF (National Science Foundation) funded projects to deploy large arrays of profiling floats across the global ocean. The hire will report to Ken Johnson.
The selected candidate will work closely with MBARI research staff to process profiling float data, monitor sensor performance and conduct routine quality control on data streams. The individual will also work with international partners in support of the global Biogeochemical Argo program (BGC-Argo). Additional tasks include collaborative maintenance and development of data processing code as well as preparation and upkeep of processing documentation. The applicant will also be expected to assist with some backend database design and management.
Required qualifications:
- Master’s Degree or equivalent experience, preferably in Marine Science with some familiarity with ocean biogeochemistry
- Experience in numerical processing of data
- Must be able to work with diverse groups of people
Desired qualifications:
- Matlab experience
- Web design, Python, and HTML experience
- May be required to go to sea for specified periods of time
Salary range: $60,000 – $80,000/year
