About the role
The Marine Autonomous and Robotic Systems (MARS) group at National Oceanography Centre develops, operates and maintains the UK’s marine science robotic fleet. The fleet consists of AUVs, subsea gliders, unmanned surface vehicles, ROV and Towed Underwater Vehicles. We operate our systems worldwide, deploying our research equipment in the Arctic, Antarctic and the deep oceans in between. Our systems have surveyed, photographed and sampled the oceans around the world. The focus of the team’s work is to support the marine scientist community and commercial customers in their efforts to understand the ocean, and to monitor the associated resources.
Within MARS, the Development Group is tasked with designing the next generation of robotic systems and supporting infrastructure which will support ongoing scientific data gathering requirements. MARS has been scaling production of our AUVs to accommodate both our own needs and those of customers at other research institutions. To meet this growing production demand MARS is looking to create a new production and support department to facilitate the needs of a growing sales order book and customer support demands. We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Assembly Technician to join our production team in building cutting-edge marine robotic vehicles. In this role, you will be responsible for the hands-on assembly, wiring, integration, and testing of complex electro-mechanical systems designed for use in harsh underwater environments.
