About the role
The National Oceanography Centre in Southampton (UK’s leading institution for integrated coastal, and deep ocean research), is looking for a Dev Ops Engineer. The SEAI (Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence) group you’ll be joining is at the forefront of environmental science and innovation. In this (Band 6) role, you will be involved with the set up and delivery of innovative digital infrastructure, both hardware and software, to be used both within the SEAI group and all of NOC’s staff. You will be in a within a team of software developers and system administrators working towards developing, maintaining, innovating, upgrading and creating systems.
Working alongside a Team of over 30 Research Software Engineers, AI Scientists, User Research and Product Designers, you help connect the dots between complex challenges, technical configurations and usability. Using agile working you will be part of scrum teams helping shape and deliver new exciting systems for NOC.
Please note the formal job title for this position at NOC is ‘Research Systems Analyst’. We are using the title ‘DevOps Engineer’ for advertising purposes.
About you
You will be experienced in system configuration, with hands-on experience, demonstrating high levels of responsibility and professionalism. You will have an aptitude to learn, support and maintain services run by the Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence team for a diverse user community. In the role you will exhibit good problem solving/troubleshooting skills, writing documentation and ideally providing training to other team members and users.
You will be expected to participate in technical research and software development to enable continuing innovation and effectively utilise technology to further environmental science. You will possess excellent organisational skills, be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and adapting between proactive and reactive workloads. You will be able to naturally form effective working relationships with staff at all levels, build and maintain long term relationships with stakeholders and suppliers while supporting the delivery of key services and objectives.
Salary range: £45,233 – £49,619
