Qualifications and skills:
- Familiarity with marine ecology, particularly in the context of deep-sea environments.
- Familiarity with marine biogeochemistry.
- Capable computer programmer (e.g., Python, MATLAB, etc.).
- Experience with image processing software (e.g., ImageJ, OpenCV).
Duties and responsibilities:
- Create a dataset of manually annotated fauna from video camera imagery collected at a deep-sea site on the NEPTUNE observatory from 2023 to present.
- Identify and classify marine life images, possibly contributing to the species catalogue of ONC Marine Life Field guide.
- Evaluate decomposition of organic substrates on the seafloor through time using various image processing techniques.
- Perform multivariate analysis to investigate changes in the fauna thought time at the site.
- Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to compile data on organic carbon consumption rates.
Conditions:
- This position reports to the Senior Staff Scientist
- Normal working hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm, 35 hours per week
