Ocean Visions works on an interdependent four-part strategy to directly address the causes and impacts of climate disruption, from an ocean lens:
- REDUCE: Identify and advance high-leverage ocean-based opportunities for a just transition to a low-carbon economy
- REMOVE: Identify and advance ocean-based pathways for cleaning up legacy carbon pollution from the air and ocean
- REPAIR: Identify and advance interventions to avoid catastrophic loss of critical marine ecosystems and passing of dangerous tipping points
- REACH: Support the growth of a global community to develop and advance innovative ocean-climate solutions
THIS ROLE
The Communications Officer will play a key role in supporting and managing communication strategy development and execution at Ocean Visions. This position will create and disseminate content across numerous channels to effectively communicate the organization’s mission, programs, and impact to a variety of audiences. The Communications Officer will report to the Senior Communications Director and may work collaboratively with other Ocean Visions team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support development of content strategy in collaboration with Senior Communications Director, draft copy for and proofread e-newsletters, web pages, social media, press releases, and other communication materials
- Support and/or lead media outreach, management of media lists, and coverage tracking
- Support and/or lead development of event communications
- Create, disseminate, and track performance of e-newsletters; suggesting improvements based on data insights
- Support development of social media strategy, manage campaigns and content calendars, and analyze engagement data to refine approach
- Contribute to website strategy and user experience improvements, perform regular website updates
- Assist in the creation and management of multimedia content, including graphics, photos, and videos
- Help ensure brand consistency and messaging alignment across all communications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or related field
- At least five years of relevant experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to create clear, compelling messages tailored to diverse audiences
- Demonstrated skills in working with cross-functional teams in a collaborative setting
- Extensive experience managing websites, social media platforms, and email marketing platforms
- Experience supporting media outreach efforts
- Strong project management skills
- Ability to operate in a remote office setting with independence, meet deadlines, and fulfill commitments
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience working for a nonprofit
- Familiarity with WordPress and Mailchimp
- Demonstrated interest or background in environmental, ocean, or climate-related work
- Ability to plan and execute social media campaigns
- Experience with design tools such as Canva and Photoshop
- Familiarity with media monitoring tools
Salary range: $75,000 – $85,000
