Ocean Career: Peatland Survey Assistant at Northumberland Wildlife Trust

The aim of the Northumberland Peat Partnership is to develop a peatland restoration programme across the partnership area, which is all of Northumberland north of the A69.

The partnership comprises of NGOs, local authorities and statutory agencies as well as land managers. Its aim is to collectively facilitate positive management and restoration of peatland habitats across Northumberland, excluding the area already covered through the work of the North Pennines AONB (south of the A69). The partnership, through NWT as the lead applicant, has been successful in obtaining funding from Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and the DEFRA Nature for Climate Peatland Discovery Grant.

The Peatland Survey Assistants will help with peatland survey as part of the Discovery Grant, supporting the Peatland Survey Officers in the assessment of peatland sites.

The post is offered initially until the end March 2023 with any extension dependent on further funding. If additional funding is forthcoming it is likely that the emphasis of work may move towards restoration planning and contractor coordination alongside further survey and monitoring.
