Ocean Career: Postdoctoral Position in Biogeochemical Oceanography

A postdoctoral position is available at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) to work on a project titled “Nitrous oxide reduction in oxygen minimum zones: an understudied but critical loss term in ocean greenhouse gas cycling”. This field-based project will incorporate 15-N tracer measurements of nitrous oxide production and consumption, as well as natural abundance isotope and molecular genetic measurements, to better understand the magnitude of nitrous oxide production and consumption as marine dissolved oxygen concentrations transition from oxic-hypoxic-anoxic conditions. The successful applicant will primarily work with Principal Investigator Dr. Damian Grundle (BIOS) and will contribute to overall project management, conduct international travel for the purpose of participating in field sampling and attending conferences, conduct laboratory measurements, and contribute to data analysis, manuscript writing and preparation of proposals. Opportunities also exist to participate in molecular genetic sampling and analysis with co-PI Dr. Frank Stewart. Drs. Grundle and Stewart will be committed to maximizing the research experience of the postdoc and to ensuring they foster the professional skills required for long-term career success.
