Additional duties of the position involve:
- Responsible for the design of electrical parts for supplemental systems and sensors for integration into larger platforms.
- Coordinate the fabrication of electrical board components with external vendors that are systems used in extreme environments by operational users and require robust electrical design.
- Participate in the preparation and execution of both field expeditions and laboratory measurements.
- Participate in fieldwork logistics of scientific research including purchasing of equipment and supplies, shipping/receiving of equipment, maintaining laboratory facilities, and interacting with non-University personnel as needed.
- Participate in the preparation of materials for technical reports, proposals, scientific publications, and oral presentations.
- Uses professional engineering concepts to perform moderately complex engineering assignments.
- Works in a specialized engineering field on a major training and / or research effort. *Works on assignments of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.
QUALIFICATIONS
- B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Ocean, or Aerospace Engineering (with suitable ME experience and education), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of engineering principles and methods in order to independently perform professional engineering design work of limited scope and complexity.
- Experience with a broad range of electronic test equipment including spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
- Demonstrated experience working with techniques in low level program language(C), object-oriented programming (C++, Python).
- Demonstrated experience assisting with the design of equipment and with incorporating the design into a multi-functional system designed by several engineers.
- Ability to repair and troubleshoot electronics and processing components for oceanographic systems.
- Demonstrated experience with power management and battery management.
- Proficiency for creating and maintaining documentation of system design and operation.
- Working knowledge necessary to begin independent application of principles, practices and procedures in the completion of assignments. Demonstrated working experience with the physics of data acquisition and sensor behavior (piezoelectric transducers, DSP boards, low noise sensor design). Proven experience programming mathematical packages for data analysis using Matlab.
- Organizational abilities and decision-making to prioritize work assignments. Demonstrated ability to provide work direction to students as needed.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate with technical and scientific personnel.
- Ability to work in a collaborative manner, to assist in identifying any challenges or barriers. Ability to work with others under demanding conditions, sometimes for extended periods of time.
- Strong organizational skills with demonstrated experience independently setting priorities, producing timely results and meeting deadlines, in a multiple demand work environment while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Compensation: $77,000 – $139,200
