Ocean Career: University of Alaska Southeast Maritime Education Specialist

The Ketchikan Campus seeks an organized and enthusiastic individual to work with maritime faculty on US Coast Guard application and credentialing processes for marine transportation courses and programs. This Maritime Education Specialist position also involves instructional design to assist maritime instructors in preparing electronic materials to improve marine transportation course delivery. These activities support exciting maritime programs that provide critical training to maintaining a safe and qualified Alaska maritime workforce, and improves educational access to rural and Alaska Native students. Additional activities may involve advising students and outreach to rural communities. The position does not require teaching; experience in online instructional design and/or in career education fields, and experience with office work and/or technical settings, is desirable but not required.

The successful candidate will have excellent attention to detail, ability to interpret complex regulations and document processes clearly in writing, and have the ability to communicate effectively using a variety electronic tools including Microsoft Office and Google suite; and have ability to work with individuals with diverse backgrounds, personalities, and life experiences. Must have the ability to work independently with little direct supervision as well as work collaboratively in a team setting, be exacting on detail with excellent time management skills, and have the ability to plan and evaluate training activities following faculty guidance. The position does not require teaching; experience in online instructional design and/or in career education fields, and experience with office work and/or technical experience, is desirable but not required

Minimum Qualifications:

An AA or AAS degree, or equivalent work experience.

Position Details:

This position is located in-person on the Ketchikan Campus of UAS. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. Compensation: $22.98 or higher, depending on experience.
