The Role:
The School of the Environment and Life Sciences is seeking to appoint a Teaching Fellow in Marine Biology.
The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching in the area of Marine Biology and Ecology and will have a strong background in leading student field work and ecological statistics. You would also be expected to contribute more generally towards the delivery of Marine Biology and Biology courses and pastoral care at foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Develop teaching materials, methods and approaches to teaching relating to taught modules in, Marine Biology and Ecology and contribute to the preparation, delivery and assessment of taught UG and PG modules
- Contribute to the continuing development of the curriculum including proposing new modules and active participation at subject group meetings
- Ensuring teaching material, methods and approaches are current through scholarly activity or professional practice and personal development
- Manage delivery of own teaching, scholarly and administrative activities with guidance where required
- Supervise students’ projects, fieldwork and placements. Act as a personal tutor to students to provide first line support and acting as a mentor when required
- Take part in relevant aspects of the student support and assessment processes (e.g. examination boards)
- Participate in internal networks for exchange of information and collaboration with colleagues, attending and contributing to subject group meetings for the benefit of education at the University of Portsmouth
- Take part in marketing activities including preview / open days, outreach, admissions and recruitment

This is a fixed term contract to 30 September 2026.
Salary range: £40,497 – £44,128 per annum
