POSITION SUMMARY

We are currently seeking applicants for the position of Metocean Analyst. The Metocean Analyst’s primary role is to analyze oceanographic data and prepare daily ocean current reports in support of a range of metocean forecasting services. This entry-level position will report to the Metocean Forecast Services Program Manager.

PRIMARY Duties and responsibilities

The Metocean Analyst will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Analyze real-time oceanographic data and numerical model output to provide daily ocean current nowcasts, forecasts, and advisory reports.
  • Utilize mathematical and scientific techniques to compile, analyze, interpret, and graphically depict metocean data.
  • Assess, synthesize, and evaluate scientific literature and prepare literature reviews.
  • Assist in the assessment of numerical model data and the interpretation of statistical results for metocean characterization and design criteria studies.
  • Correspond with clients and vendors in support of operations.
  • Present information in client meetings, at professional scientific/industry conferences, and in scientific/industry publications.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS AND CAPABILITIES

The ideal applicant is a marine scientist graduate with a strong interest in metocean data analysis and interpretation and has the following qualifications:

  • BS degree in physical oceanography, meteorology, and/or physical or marine science required. MS degree desirable but not essential.
  • High level programming, mathematical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and Python.
  • Familiarity with other programming languages such as R, C#, C++, HTML, Java etc.
  • Experience with numerical forecast models is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in Windows, Mac, and Linux environments.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Occasional weekend work required.

Salary range: $50,000.00 To $60,000.00 Annually
