Prepare reports of completed work and contributes to new proposal efforts. Ability to work independently, support project management, and provide technical leadership.
The Coastal Engineer/Modeler will have the following duties and responsibilities:
- Coastal, oceanographic, and environmental processes and data analyses
- Numerical model applications
- Ocean-scale wave, circulation, and storm surge
- Estuary & wetland hydrodynamics
- Waves, sediment transport and shoreline/beach profile change
- Contaminant transport and fate
- Water quality
- Support for field data collection and analysis
- Engineering design and evaluation of shore protection structures, beach nourishment, habitat restoration and climate change adaptations
- Report writing
- Write proposals and estimate costs for potential projects
- Work successfully with other motivated team members to achieve project goals
- Assure proper archiving and documentation of program data
- Personal task management, adherence to project deadlines & scope
- Attend client meetings and gather feedback
QUALIFICATIONS
- 0-2 years of related experience.
- Degree in Ocean/Coastal Sciences/Engineering or closely related field is required, Master’s preferred.
- Demonstrated capabilities in numerical modeling, data analysis and courses in quantitative coastal processes are highly desirable.
- Proficiency in programming in Python, Matlab, working with numerical model source codes, high-performance computing, as well as business software including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent English oral communication, technical writing, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time
