Ocean Internship: New Jersey Sea Grant Science Communications

New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium (NJSGC) is currently seeking a summer intern to work within the communications department and assist staff with all relevant tasks including (but not limited to): social media campaigns, video production, event coverage/promotion, and programmatic outreach. This position is ideal for undergraduates interested in pursuing a career in the digital communications field, with a unique emphasis on marine, coastal, and STEM initiatives. The intern will report directly to NJSGC’s Communications Specialist and work throughout the busy 2025 summer season (May-August) at the Jersey Shore.

Intern Job Responsibilities:

  • Understands the overall concept and mission of the organization.
  • Assists with the growth and success of NJSGC’s social media presence (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.).
  • Attends, promotes, and helps execute several special events and ceremonies, including Ocean Fun Days, State of the Shore, “Favorite Beaches,” Jersey Shore photo contest, etc.
  • Collaborate with Sea Grant-funded researchers, stakeholders, community representatives, and other state partners/agencies.
  • Builds NJSGC’s video portfolio (knowledge in editing and graphic design a plus)
  • Helps create “needs assessments” and other applicable reports for management.

Hook – right on the beach! Stipend funds of $6,000 will be provided. Gain professional

experience and assist with the ins and outs of digital communications within the

scientific marine professional world.

Requirements:

  • College undergraduate studying Marine/Environmental Science, Communications, Public Relations, Digital Marketing, or any related field.
