The Youth Science Ambassador Program connects youth with their local ocean environment, ocean data, and place-based Indigenous knowledge. Training provided.
Duties
- Present in classroom to students about ocean literacy and the work that Ocean Networks Canada (ONC) does
- Explore the connection between ocean science and Indigenous knowledge
- Connect students and educators with ONC’s observatories and data
- Assist with ocean data collection and local science projects
- Act as a local contact for students and community members interested in the ocean and Ocean Networks Canada
Desired Skills and Qualities
- Passionate about Indigenous knowledge and its connection to science
- Experience working with youth and/or children
- Ability to work independently
- Experience working with Indigenous communities
- Excellent communication skills
- Willing and able to travel
- Combinations of education and experience will be considered
Locations
ONC hires Youth Science Ambassador positions in the following communities:
- Iqaluit, Nunavut
- Nunatsiavut, Nunavut
- Kugluktuk, Nunavut
- Cambridge Bay, Nunavut
The Youth Science Ambassadors will collaborate with each other across regions. Contact us for current openings. The position will require a paid training and orientation period in Victoria, BC. Some travel will be required. Travel expenses will be provided. Applicants must be 18-30 years old.
