World Oceans Day is June 8

World Oceans Day, held every June 8, is a day of ocean celebration and action that is recognized by the United Nations. People all over our blue planet organize celebrations – which can be a huge event in your community, a special announcement, or anything in between – to support action to protect the ocean. This year, the theme is Healthy oceans, healthy planet, and we’re making a special effort to stop plastic pollution.

Want to plan a company volunteer day, empower teachers to educate our youth about the ocean, or help eliminate the use of microbeads? Ideas and resources for bringing the celebration (and awareness) to your own community are available at www.worldoceansday.org. The site includes hints on planning events and ideas for helping the ocean that range from last minute ideas to high tech solutions and will include everyone from the ocean professional to students. The articles, downloads, and other resources on the site are all free.
