Alabama Trustees Release Final Supplemental Environmental Assessment for Marine Mammal Restoration

The Alabama Trustee Implementation Group has approved a final supplemental environmental assessment to the 2018 Final Restoration Plan II and Environmental Assessment (PDF, 1218 pages). The Final Supplemental Restoration Plan II and Environmental Assessment: Marine Mammals (PDF, 51 pages) approves $1,881,237 in additional funds for marine mammal restoration in Alabama. The additional funding allows for the extension of the Enhancing Capacity of the Marine Mammal Stranding Network in Alabama for at least three years, utilizing the remaining Marine Mammal Restoration Type funds allocated under the 2016 Deepwater Horizon NRDAR settlement to the Alabama Restoration Area.

The final supplemental environmental assessment includes details about the proposed activities and the Alabama Trustee Implementation Group’s environmental analysis. The draft supplemental environmental assessment was made available for public comment from March 18, 2024, through April 18, 2024. No public comments relevant to the draft environmental assessment were received, and no substantive changes were made to the final supplemental environmental assessment from the draft that was released for comment. The Trustee Implementation Group looks forward to continuing the restoration benefits for marine mammals in Alabama.
