The Aquaculture Aquarist II plays a pivotal role at Georgia Aquarium, focusing on the cultivation and care of marine fish larvae, and the production of essential live feeds such as microalgae, and zooplankton. This position is integral to the Aquarium's efforts in marine species aquaculture development, collection sustainability, and technology sharing. The position aims to optimize growth conditions, ensure the health and vitality of larvae, and support the institution's conservation goals.

Responsibilities:

1. Executes daily operations related to marine larvae cultivation, ensuring optimal feeding, water quality, and health monitoring.
2. Cultivates a consistent supply of high-quality live feeds, including microalgae, rotifers, and copepods, tailored to the nutritional needs of various larval stages.
3. Apply and refine protocols for spawning, egg incubation, larval rearing, and the transition to juvenile stages, incorporating the latest aquaculture innovations.
4. Ensure the proper function, maintenance, and cleanliness of all aquaculture systems and life support equipment, adjusting water chemistry and conditions to meet the specific needs of marine larvae and live feeds.
5. Identify and address any system issues promptly, maintaining a stable environment for all cultures.
6. Engage in ongoing research to enhance the efficiency of larval rearing processes and live feed production, collaborating with scientific teams to explore new methodologies and technologies.
7. Document experimental designs, procedures, and outcomes, contributing to Georgia Aquarium's research portfolio and to the broader scientific community.
8. Keep comprehensive records of aquaculture activities, including detailed logs of breeding, feeding schedules, water quality data, and health assessments of larvae and live feeds.
9. Generate and present reports summarizing project progress, challenges, and successes to Aquarium management.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology, Aquaculture, or a related field is required.
2. A minimum of two years of experience in marine aquaculture, with a strong emphasis on larval rearing and the cultivation of live feeds such as microalgae and zooplankton.
3. Proven history in managing aquatic systems and understanding of water chemistry.
4. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
5. Effective communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of individuals and teams.
6. Proficient in using data management software and tools for research and reporting purposes.
7. Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
