Ocean Career: Marine Biological Laboratory Ecosystems Center Research Assistant I

The MBL Ecosystems Center seeks a full-time Research Assistant I to assist with research on biogeochemical transport and processing in coupled watershed-estuary systems recovering from eutrophication.

This position will include field and lab work in estuaries fringing the coast of Cape Cod.

Specific tasks will be to collect and process surface water and groundwater samples, conduct nutrient analyses, measure phytoplankton and suspended matter concentrations, assist with deploying and downloading field instruments including current meters and multiparameter sondes. Experience with spectrophotometry, elemental analysis, and automated nutrient analyzers is helpful. The successful applicant should also be willing to help with basic preparations for field work such as organizing, cleaning and maintaining gear and small boats.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, biology, geoscience or environmental science and relevant field and research experience. Proficiency in Excel is necessary. Desire to work in a collaborative environment.

Physical Requirements:

Willingness to work in the field during inclement weather, ability to lift 50 lbs and to swim are required.
