Ocean Career: NOC Mechanical Engineering Manager

About the Role:

The Mechanical Engineering Manager will be the technical authority for all mechanical design in the CASSIS team. They will hold responsibility for Mechanical / CAD design of landers, underwater deployment systems and coastal monitoring installations. CAD models, draft design, manufacturing and assembly drawings will therefore be required for on-site and subcontracted manufacture and assembly. This position would therefore suit someone with diverse hands-on experience within design engineering and manufacturing who is used to being part of complex projects.

The Mechanical Engineering manager will also be responsible for the personnel within the CNC workshop and assembly areas.

About CASSIS:

Coastal and Sea Shelf Instrumentation Services (CASSIS) is a group of 7 engineers within the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) in Liverpool split between mechanical and electrical engineering. The Team typically perform a support function for the team of coastal scientists within the ‘Marine Physics and Ocean Climate’ group. CASSIS engineers work on sensor integration, communications, energy provision, mechanical housings and lander design along with installation, data retrieval and maintenance.

About you

A background in Mechanical Design Engineering, ideally in a marine environment. This is a uniquely broad, hands-on role which will be well suited to a motivated individual who is able to:

  • Design bespoke coastal and subsea fixtures
  • Manage/Work alongside a range of engineers with a broad range of skills
  • Schedule team workload to meet competing interests of simultaneous research and commercial projects

Location

This position will be based in Liverpool. The center is part of the University campus and is only a short walk from the city center and Lime Street station.
