This role will require the day-to-day leadership and mentoring of a group of three junior technicians deploying the National Centre for Coastal Technology's autonomous capability to deliver Plymouth Marine Laboratory’s (PML) digital strategy.
The successful candidate will have experience in an associated field and will be familiar with a range of surface and subsurface marine autonomous platforms. PML is seeking a passionate individual who is driven to develop technology solutions to enhance PML’s scientific capability. You must be a strong team player who will integrate and work well within PML’s National Centre for Coastal Autonomy (NCCA) team but also with technical teams across various collaborating organizations.
Core Requirements:
- Experienced in the use of robotic systems.
- A good practical understanding of marine electronics and component integration.
- Able to solve complex problems quickly in a highly pressurized environment.
- Work with teams within PML and collaborate with external companies to integrate and prototype technologies using the Smart Sound platforms.
- Ability to work at sea.
Desirable skills:
- Computer coding skills.
- Familiarity with ARM (solid state PC) technology e.g., Raspberry Pi.
- Advanced communication systems and computer networking
- Knowledge of scientific payloads and optimized deployment protocols
- Vessel skippers’ tickets such as RYA Advanced Powerboater
The role is based in our laboratory in Plymouth, with an open-ended appointed contract of 37 hours per week.
