Ocean Career: Sofar Ocean Marketing Specialist

Sofar is on a mission to connect the world’s oceans. We design, build, and deploy the largest privately owned network of marine weather sensors to power the world’s best marine weather forecasts.

Our data helps our customers to increase efficiency and reduce emissions, delivering tools to governments and other stakeholders to understand impacts of climate change on extreme weather and ocean health. The Role

We are looking for a Marketing Specialist to join our team. This role would support Sofar Ocean’s marketing efforts and also support Bristlemouth community growth efforts. Sofar Ocean is a strategic partner of Bristlemouth, an open standard delivering plug-and-play hardware interfaces for marine applications, ushering in a new era of ocean innovation.

The optimal candidate will have the ability to operate in a high-performance environment infused with ocean and atmosphere science. This role is located out of our Pier 28 headquarters in San Francisco and requires at least three days in the office each week.

Impact you’ll own

  • Develop, implement, and track marketing programs such as email, social media, lead gen/community growth, digital campaigns, events, etc.
  • Collaborate with members of marketing and cross-functionally with product and developer relations on community growth initiatives
  • Conduct research to identify and confirm marketing opportunities, including but not limited to events, speaking, advertising, etc.
  • Develop and create marketing materials for print and digital, ensuring brand guidelines are met
  • Write, proofread, and edit content across different mediums
  • Work with strategic partners and third-party vendors/agencies to execute marketing programs
  • Analyze and report on the performance and efficiency of programs
  • Track budget, submit invoices and expenses
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, communications, or a related field
  • 2-3 years of experience in marketing
  • Experience in marketing and analytics tools such as Google Analytics, CRM systems (e.g. Hubspot), and content management systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Skilled in writing and editing content with attention to detail
  • Strong prioritization, organization, and project management skills
  • Ability to travel as necessary

Bonus Points

  • Understanding of the shipping industry, oceanography and/or meteorological data
  • Basic understanding of HTML
  • Basic understanding of photo/video editing software like Figma, Adobe Photoshop and/or Adobe Premiere

Estimated Salary Range:

  • $65,000–$76,000
  • The range listed is what we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and may be modified in the future. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, experience, and equity package.
