Position Description
This position involves the daily operation of Bay Shellfish Co.’s continuous microalgae system, maintenance of microalgae stock cultures, and isolation of new microalgae strains. Attention to detail, troubleshooting, and note taking are critical to success. Aseptic technique is required for all tasks involving algae strains. Outside of microalgae, support of hatchery and nursery staff is required under greenhouse and field conditions. Work includes research projects with federal, state and local partners along with a strong focus on in-house R&D. Grant writing and research projects are encouraged when time permits.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Experience culturing microalgae (preferred), bacteria, or plants in laboratory conditions
- Minimum of a bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. degree in aquaculture, microbiology, marine biology, plant science, botany, or related discipline
- Ability to work in hot, humid greenhouse conditions for periods of time
- A high level of attention to detail and precise record keeping
- Experience using aseptic technique
- Experience with grant writing and/or project management
- Must be able to work independently
- Physically fit and able to lift 40 lbs.
- Appreciation for farm-type work
- Valid US driver’s license
Pay: $60,000.00 – $100,000.00 per year
